Weekend Getaways

The holidays are now over and it is time to settle back into work and the normal hustle and bustle of the working week.

But when the weekend roles around, it is time to hit the road and enjoy the last of the sunshine.

There is an abundance of great weekend destinations throughout Victoria, some within 90 minutes of Melbourne’s CBD, while others may be better suited to an overnight stay.

Here are some of our top driving destinations for the summertime;

.

Great Ocean Road

Take a drive down one of Victoria’s most renowned stretches of road starting in Geelong, where you can stop for a swim anywhere along Victoria’s surf coast, including Bells Beach and Jan Juc.

You can also explore the rainforests of the Otway Ranges and the Twelve Apostles or stop over in the historic towns of Queenscliff, Warrnambool or Port Fairy, taking in the sceneries of the rugged shipwreck coast.

Mornington Peninsula

Enjoy driving through the 260km of coastline of the Mornington Peninsula.  Stop at any of the calm, sandy beaches of Port Philip Bay or ride the waves of the ocean beaches, at Portsea, Sorrento, Rye and Gunnamatta.

There are numerous picnic and camping areas available along the foreshores of the Mornington Peninsula, as well as golf courses and walking tracks or you can stop at the Red Hill market, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month from September to May.

You can even join your drive of the Mornington Peninsula with the Bellarine Peninsula by catching the hourly car and passenger ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff.

Phillip Island

Visit Phillip Island and take in the sights of the wonderful nature and wildlife.  With family activities including fishing, boating, swimming or surfing, there is plenty of action to keep everyone busy.

Watch the penguin parade at sunset and see nature take place before your eyes.  Also see the koala and bird life or take in your surroundings at Seal Rocks.
